Kohistan Scandal: KP Govt Under Fire/Rs. 40 Billion Corruption Exposed

Azma Bokhari Calls Kohistan Scandal a Stain on KP Government, Demands Full Investigation

Lahore – Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bokhari on Friday condemned the alleged Rs. 40 billion Kohistan corruption scandal, calling it a national embarrassment and a shocking revelation of the true face behind the slogan of “change” often echoed by the PTI-led KP government.

Demands full transparency and public audit of Kohistan funds

In a strongly worded statement, Bokhari said, “Those who once claimed to represent honesty and transparency now stand exposed as part of confirmed corruption. The public funds of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being wasted on fugitives while their close allies enjoy the loot.”

She further added sarcastically, “This is exactly what happens when the cat is put in charge of guarding the milk.”

Drawing a striking comparison, Bokhari noted that even individuals convicted in high-profile cases like the £190 million scandal would be left astonished by the depth and scale of this alleged embezzlement. “It’s an irony of its own kind,” she remarked.

The minister highlighted what she called over a decade of misgovernance, corruption, and plundering in KP under the PTI regime. She said that while essential services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure remained neglected, the provincial government’s sympathies seemed to lie with a convicted criminal currently serving time in Adiala Jail.

Bokhari demanded a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the Kohistan scandal, urging authorities to disclose how and where public funds were utilized. “The people deserve to know where their hard-earned money has gone,” she asserted.

In addition to addressing the financial scandal, Azma Bokhari also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Swat, where 13 members of the same family drowned in the Swat River. “Despite desperate cries for help for over two hours, no rescue team arrived. Not even Mr. Gandapur’s helicopter came to assist,” she lamented.

Criticizing the KP government’s disaster response system, Bokhari alleged that rescue resources in the province are more often used for political stunts against the federal or Punjab government, rather than saving citizens’ lives during real emergencies.

She concluded by demanding an immediate inquiry into the Swat tragedy and called for urgent measures to improve tourist safety and emergency preparedness in the region.
