Billy Idol Opens Up About Discovering a Long-Lost Son: ‘Part of Me Always Knew’
Rock icon Billy Idol recently revealed that he wasn’t exactly shocked to learn he had a son he never knew about. While most people would be blindsided by such news, the punk legend took it in stride — even admitting he always had a gut feeling there might be another child out there.
The surprising revelation came after his daughter, Bonnie, uncovered the truth through a DNA test, confirming Brant Broad as Idol’s son.
Given his wild past, Idol said the discovery didn’t completely throw him off. Reflecting on his rockstar lifestyle in an interview with The i newspaper, he shared:
“Maybe a little bit, but the more I thought about it, I guessed there must be something like that. In the ’70s and ’80s, we were just having knockdown, drag-out sex with a million people you didn’t know. A lot of people in the rock world have children from outside their known relationships.”
Since finding out, Idol and Brant — who lives in New York and works in construction, like Billy and his brother once did — have built a close relationship.
“We’re quite good friends, and I love him. He’s a nice guy,” Idol added.
Their bond has grown steadily, adding a new chapter to Idol’s already colorful life story.
In his recent documentary Billy Idol Should Be Dead, the singer also reflected on a near-fatal heroin overdose. He expressed gratitude for surviving and being able to witness the massive success of his hit Rebel Yell.
