Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich — who shocked the world with a 2:09:56 finish in Chicago — has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned diuretic (HCTZ).
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) says she voluntarily stepped back during the investigation. The substance is often used to mask performance-enhancing drugs.
Chepngetich, 30, was also the 2019 world marathon champ in Qatar’s extreme heat and a three-time Chicago Marathon winner.
No timeline yet for disciplinary action, but the AIU confirmed she cooperated fully in April interviews in Kenya.
A stunning twist in the career of one of the fastest women in history. 🕵️♀️⏱️
